The Galaxy-class was a Starfleet starship first introduced in the late 2350s. It was the largest and one of the most powerful Federation starship classes of its time, with many serving in the Dominion War.
The Galaxy-class had two hull sections, a saucer-shaped primary hull and a secondary hull which mounted the two warp nacelles. The hulls were capable of reversible saucer separation and were both equipped with independent flight and combat capabilities. Generally, civilians and non-essential personnel would evacuate to the saucer module, while the senior staff confronted a threat in the battle section, which contained the majority of weapons systems. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint") The saucer was even capable of crash-landing on a planetary surface.
The Sovereign-class starship was introduced in the late 24th century, showcasing some of Starfleet's most recent technological advances. The Sovereign Project was one of the new defensive technologies initially intended for use against the Borg threat. The prototype USS Sovereign was still in the design phase during the Battle of Wolf 359.
Heavily armed, the design philosophy for the Sovereign-class was shaped by the discovery of the Borg. The Sovereign Project attempted to push the envelope as far as possible when it came to computer power, shields, armament, and systems capabilities. The Sovereign-class starship combined the creature comforts associated with the larger Galaxy-class vessels with the tactical power of the new Prometheus-class. (Star Trek: First Contact)
The warp engines of the Sovereign were of a new design which eliminated subspace distortion effects inherent to standard warp drives without the use of variable geometry nacelles (as found on the Intrepid-class – see also Hekaras Corridor). (Star Trek Nemesis) In addition, it was armed with a large quantum torpedo launcher mounted forward of the deflector dish above the captain's yacht, which was capable of firing at least four rounds per second.
The Ambassador class starship was a Starfleet heavy cruiser class launched in the mid 24th century. The origins of the Ambassador class date back to the first half of the 24th century.
One of the most notable Ambassador class ships was the USS Enterprise-C. In 2344, while under the command of Captain Rachel Garrett, the ship responded to a distress call from a Klingon colony on Narendra III. Four Romulan warbirds had ambushed the colony. The Enterprise responded to the attack, and despite being destroyed there, defended it long enough to impress the Klingon High Council. Hostilities ended almost immediately between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. A lasting peace agreement would not be reached until 2352, but the cessation of nearly 60 years of conflict between the two powers was a welcome step toward galactic peace. The Ambassador class featured the saucer section-engineering section-warp nacelle layout common to most Starfleet vessels. It was intermediate in size between the Excelsior-class and the Galaxy-class. The ship boasted at least three engineering levels. It was armed with both phasers and photon torpedoes with coverage to both fore and aft firing arcs. The control panels were flat-panel and LCARS based, using the interface introduced in the late 23rd century.
The Delta Flyer was a unique Starfleet shuttlecraft constructed by the crew of the USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant in 2375. The vessel was designed to handle environments that would be too hazardous for a standard shuttlecraft. The vessel was a blend of Starfleet and Borg technology, designed in collaboration between B'Elanna Torres, Tom Paris, Tuvok, Harry Kim and Seven of Nine. It featured an ultra-aerodynamic tetraburnium alloy hull, retractable warp nacelles, parametallic hull plating, unimatrix shielding, and a Borg-inspired weapon system, including photonic missiles. To Paris' disappointment, the addition of dynametric tailfins was denied by Tuvok.
The Excelsior-class was a type of Federation starship first built in the 2280s. The prototype of this class, the USS Excelsior, was initially fitted with a transwarp drive and proclaimed as "the Great Experiment." The ship had an ignoble start when its engines were sabotaged when it was called into action to prevent the theft of the USS Enterprise from Earth Spacedock in 2285. Although the "great experiment" of the transwarp drive failed to create a revolution in the nature of warp speeds and space travel, the Excelsior spaceframe was still the most advanced design in Starfleet. After prototype runs, some modifications were made, such as a different bridge structure and a different shuttlebay structure. Several variations of the original design have continued in service up to the Dominion War.
The Miranda-class starship was a type of medium cruiser introduced by Starfleet in the late 23rd century and had a production run through the mid 24th century. During the 24th century, variations of this class were sometimes known as Class 6 Federation supply ships.
The configuration of the Miranda-class shares a similar design lineage and features with the Constitution-class, implemented in 2270.
All Miranda-class starships have a saucer section making up the majority of the vessel. The saucer is similar to that of a Constitution-class, but with a bulkier aft end with shuttlebays and a warp core. Below the saucer, at the aft edges, are the nacelle pylons connected to the warp nacelles. There are four configurations of the Miranda-class.
The Constellation-class starship was a medium-sized cruiser employed by Starfleet in the late 23rd century through the mid-24th century.
Introduced in the late 23rd century, the Constellation-class starship was similar in overall size to a Constitution-class starship. Constellation vessels were equipped with four nacelles and were suited for both deep-space exploration and defensive patrol duties.
One notable feature of the Constellation-class was that it was one of the few classes in use mounted with four warp nacelles. This unique arrangement in a starship design was later found in the Nebula-class USS Melbourne configuration, Cheyenne and Prometheus-classes.
During their original construction, Constellation-class starships employed Avidyne engines. By the latter 24th century these had been replaced with more effective engines.
Although the layout of the main bridge of the Constellation-class of starships could be described as "standard" in terms of how Federation starship bridges are designed, the Constellation-class appeared to have two prominently different bridge types. These variations can be recognized between the USS Hathaway, launched in 2285, and the USS Stargazer, last active in 2355.
The NX-class was the first class of starship built with the warp five engine, thereby enabling Humanity's first steps of exploration beyond its neighboring star systems. Serving in the Earth Starfleet, the first ship of the NX-class was Enterprise, commissioned in 2151. The second ship, Columbia, was commissioned in 2154. The NX-class was the first Earth Starfleet starship equipped with a Human-built propulsion system able to achieve warp 5. Before finally being commissioned, the ship was conceived of over thirty years at the Warp Five Complex: a research and development site on Earth, where Henry Archer and Zefram Cochrane, among others, worked on the creation of the Warp Five engine. The first vessel of the class built was the Enterprise (NX-01), with three more on the drawing board.
The Conestoga-type was a class of colony ship used very shortly after Zefram Cochranes warp flight, capable of just over Warp 1.
It could carry about 200 colonists, and was equipped for a long-term travel, as it could take up to a decade to get to its final destination where the ship could be dismantled, and its parts used to build the colony.
One ship of this type, the SS Conestoga, was launched in 2069 for a 9-year trip to colonize Terra Nova.

The nebula class starship of the federation is build in the mid-24th century.The nebula class is used to explore new planets en perform research on the surface, if possible.The nebula class has 2 warp nacelles and 3 impulse engines. It has only 4 phaser banks and 1 photon torpedo launcher, but is one of the most advanced starships of the federation.
The Intrepid-class starship was a Federation design that entered service in the latter half of the 24th century. When first commissioned the Intrepid-class featured many innovations then becoming available, not least being the warp core design and variable-geometry pylons that reduced damage to subspace and allowing for relatively safe travel beyond warp 5. The class was also the first to incorporate bioneural gel packs and the Emergency Medical Hologram system. (VOY: "Relativity")
Capabilities upon introduction were equally impressive. The class boasted the highest top speed of any Starfleet vessel, until the development of the Prometheus-class. Its multi-mission design was backed up by a main computer processor capable of simultaneously accessing 47 million data channels and sustaining 575 trillion calculations per nanosecond. The hull configuration of the Intrepid class adopted the saucer-type shape of previous starship classes, that of primary hull, secondary hull, and nacelles driven by the physics of warp generation and control. One of Voyager's most notable characteristics are its warp nacelles which angle when going to warp, a quality which has not been shown in any other starship. The Intrepid class uses a duranium hull structure, a plasma-based power distribution system, and tricyclic life-support systems.
The Akira-class was a class of Federation starship that was in service with Starfleet by the early 2370s. Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards was one of the sites this class was constructed at in 2371. Akira-class starships were featured prominently in the Battle of Sector 001 and the Dominion War. As well, several were involved in most of the major battles of the war. In 2374, they saw action during Operation Return and the First Battle of Chin'toka, where at least one ship of the class was destroyed by an orbital weapon platform.
The Defiant-class starship, officially classified as an escort, began development in 2366 as a small, highly-powered, heavily-armed warship intended to defend the Federation against the Borg. The USS Defiant (NX-74205) was the first of what was to be a new Federation battle fleet being prepared to counter the Borg. Starfleet abandoned the project when the Borg threat became less urgent and design flaws turned up nearly destroying the Defiant during its initial shakedown cruise.
The Defiant prototype was pulled out of storage in 2371 when the Dominion threat emerged. After several upgrades by Operations Chief Miles O'Brien, the ship was deemed worthy of use and several more ships of the class were constructed.
The Steamrunner class was a type of Federation starship in service with Starfleet during the late 24th century.
Several ships of the class were stationed near Deep Space 9 during the war. The steamrunner class was primary used as a long-range artillery ship. Since it was capable of firing long-range torpedos with the highest accuracy.
The Constitution-class starships, which were also known as Starship class starships, were the premier front-line Starfleet vessels in the latter half of the 23rd century. They were designed for long duration missions with minimal outside support and are best known for their celebrated missions of galactic exploration and diplomacy which typically lasted up to five years. The Constitution-class lineage was launched sometime prior to 2245, and served as Starfleet's front-line vessels for the rest of the century. The Constitution-class also served as a mighty deterrent to both the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Star Empire, several times taking part in combat actions which determined the fate of the entire Federation if not the Alpha Quadrant itself. The most famous Constitution-class starship was the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), launched under the command of Captain Robert April in 2245. The Enterprise gained its reputation during its historic five year mission (2265-2270) under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Sometime between 2265 and 2266 the vessels underwent a major overhaul: The old deflector dish was replaced by a significantly smaller model, the spikes on the Bussard collectors were removed, a smaller bridge dome of flatter curvature was installed, the aft caps on the warp nacelles were each equipped with a spherical attachment, and the impulse drive now had only two large exhausts. This was the Constitution-Refit class.
The D'Gavama-class (known in translation from Klingonaase, literally, as the Bird of Prey-class, alphanumeric designation K22A-class) was a Klingon class V bird of prey scout starship in Imperial Defense Force service in the 23rd century, becoming active on reference stardate 2/1805.
The K22A was created by the refit of stripped down Romulan S11-class starship hulls delivered to the Klingons in the late 23rd century as part of the short-lived Klingon-Romulan Alliance, and was among the earliest Klingon uses of the cloaking device, although the device was unreliable; radiation emissions from this model were known to cause mental aberrations in bird-of-prey crews. This early Klingon use of a Romulan starship hull showed numerous design influences of both species' shipbuilders, with adjustable wing mounts equipped for aerodynamic use as well as to increase number of firing solutions available.
The vessels crewed 12 officers and men. Additionally, the K22A could carry 250 metric tons of cargo, rated at 5 SCU (standard cargo units). Unloaded, the vessel weighed 46,300 metric tons, measured 88 meters in length, 130 meters in width and 16 meters in height.
The K22A's computer was of the ZD-4 type, and the vessel was loaded with 1 standard (6 person) personnel transporter and had landing and atmospheric flight capability.
The K22A warp engines were KWC-3 type, rated to cruise at warp factor 7 and max out at warp factor 8. Impulse engines were of the KIB-1 type. The K22A had 2 KD-8 disruptor emitters, with arcs of fire to fore as well as port and starboard. The vessel a single KP-5 launcher weapon and was defended by KSC model deflector shields and equipped with KCB model cloak.
By the end of the 23rd century, the K22A was no longer in production, with 8 vessels having been built, none remaining in active service after the K22A class was phased out by the K22B-class.
The Negh'Var warship was the largest class starship known to operate in the Klingon Defense Forces during the late 24th century.
In 2372, the IKS Negh'Var, which was a vessel of this type, was the flagship of the Klingon Imperial Fleet. While under the command of General Martok, she led the Klingon Empire's invasion of the Cardassian Union on stardate 49011. She thereafter fought an action at Deep Space 9, where she was able to breach the station's shields long enough to transport several troops.
The Negh'Var was a modification of the future Klingon ship studio model used in "All Good Things...", which was designed by Rick Sternbach, which consisted of modifications made to the Vor'cha-class model.
For the model's later appearance as the Negh'Var itself, the bow fins and the nacelle spikes were removed, and pods on top of the nacelles were added to the original model. This model also appeared as the Regent's flagship in the mirror universe; however, the design appeared to be several times larger in scale.
The model eventually became a CGI mesh that incorporated both the elements of its TNG and DS9 versions to become another future variant in "Endgame."
The designation for this class can be read briefly on an okudagram appearing in several episodes of DS9 and VOY, which reads "Negh'Var warship."
The Vor'cha-class attack cruiser was one of the largest and most powerful mainstays of the Klingon Defense Forces during in the mid- to late-24th century. As such, many saw action in the Dominion War.
The Vor'cha-class attack cruiser first appeared prior to 2367. Initially, limited to the disposal of the Klingon Chancellor and various other ranking officials, the class would eventually become fully integrated into the Klingon Imperial Fleet over the next five years.
For a time, one even served as the flagship of the Imperial Fleet, until the Negh'var-class battleship was introduced in 2371.
The Vor'cha-class was one of the more powerful ships in the Klingon Defense Forces. Comparable in size to the Federation Excelsior-class starship or the Cardassian Empire's Galor-class cruiser, it was also one of the largest, carrying a formidable armament and demonstrating great maneuverability considering their relative size.
Heavily armed, Vor'chas are mounted with a heavy forward disruptor cannon and numerous secondary disruptor beam emitters. These vessels also have incorporated, like all Klingon starships of the time, the ever-present cloaking device, which protect them from detection in most evasive situations.
The design of the main bridge of a Vor'cha' shares numerous similarities to both its Romulan and Federation starship counterparts.
Located in the front of the bridge, against the forward bulkhead, is the ship's main viewscreen. The command chair is located in the center of the bridge, and has the ability to swivel 360 degrees, allowing the captain to visually monitor all bridge operations. At the rear of the bridge are several aft stations, including the tactical position.
The Klingon Bird-of-Prey was a type of warship utilized by the Klingon Empire servicing the Klingon Defense Forces from the late 23rd century into the late 24th century.
Its design was characterized by its multi-position wings. It came in a variety of sizes, and some of the smaller types were capable of atmospheric flight and planetary landings.
This type of craft, initially descended from its counterpart from a century earlier, was one of the most versatile warships employed by the Klingon, serving a variety of mission roles, including that of a scout, raider, patrol ship, and cruiser.
The Klingons applied several class designations to the different types of their Bird-of-Prey design, including the K'vort-class, B'rel-class and D12-class.
The Enterprise-D is fired upon by a D12-class Klingon Bird-of-PreyThe D12-class was retired from service by the 2350s due to faulty plasma coils, which were components of the cloaking systems.
Birds-of-Prey typically featured forward firing wing-mounted disruptors and a nose-mounted forward-firing torpedo tube. The 23rd century type had a maximum weapons range of between 1,000 and 2,000 kellicams (2,000 and 4,000 kilometers), and its total effective firepower was 1/10 that of a Constitution-class cruiser.
Birds-of-Prey typically utilized cloaking devices. The first 23rd century models' cloak could permit the use of communications and/or the ship's transporters, but could not be kept up at the same time as the ship used its weapons systems. Also, the cloak left an "energy surge" that could be picked up on close-range sensor scans as a "distortion", tipping off an observant opponent to the vessel's presence.
The Borg Class 4 tactical vessel was a type of heavily armed Borg cube utilized by the Borg Collective. The tactical cube differs from the standard Borg cube in several ways, the most notable being the extensive hull armor that covers a large portion of the exterior hull of the ship. The interior is also slightly altered from what is known of Borg 'architecture'. The vessel's central plexus is protected by multi-regenerative security fields.
Only one such vessel has thus far been observed by Starfleet - by the USS Voyager in 2376. The tactical cube was later caused to self-destruct by the Borg Queen during a brief civil war within the Collective.
The Borg cube was the primary vessel of the Borg Collective. It was extremely large, measuring 28 cubic kilometers in volume and carrying up to 129,000 Borg drones. It was one of the most powerful vessels in the galaxy.
Borg cubes were highly decentralized in structure. No specific bridge, living quarters or engineering section was observed. All vital systems were spread throughout the ship, which, along with the presence of a regenerative outer hull, made it highly resistant to damage and system failures. In 2366, Commander Shelby estimated that a cube could stay operative even if 78% was destroyed. Information and Collective communication were routed through power waveguide conduits and distribution nodes. Its exterior design consisted of perpendicular and diagonal greebling, allowing a characteristic green light to emanate from within.
The main tactic employed by cubes when engaging another vessel was to seize it with a tractor beam and render its defenses useless by draining its shields. Thus, the cube could perform any type of action, ranging from destruction to assimilation, on the defenseless ship.
The cube weaponry also included disruptor beams, torpedoes, and shield neutralizers. During the 2366-2367 incursion, a cube obliterated three ships of the Mars Defense Perimeter with torpedoes. The concentrated fire of three Borg disruptor beams was able to reduce USS Voyager's ablative hull armor integrity, a highly advanced future Starfleet defense technology, to 40%. During the first contact in system J-25, three shield neutralizer energy bursts disabled the Enterprise's shields. The cubes could also use dispersal fields to disrupt the sensor and transporter function of enemy vessels.
The Borg sphere is a sphere-shaped starship used by the Borg Collective. According to the Borg drone, designated as One, some of these spheres are designated as long range tactical vessels, have transwarp capability and ablative hull armor. At least one Borg Sphere has been observed to have time travel capabilities. On one such occasion, a Borg Sphere traveled back to the year 2063, in order to prevent the historical event known as First Contact.
During Voyager's attempt to get home in 2378, they were chased by Sphere 634, one of the few the Borg Queen had managed to keep in contact with. The sphere managed to weaken Voyager inside the collapsing transwarp corridors before capturing the ship. When the sphere arrived in the Alpha Quadrant, a fleet of 27 Federation starships opened fire on the sphere. It took a transphasic torpedo fired from Voyager to defeat it.
A Sphere has no visible living quarters, engineering section or propulsion systems. They are also smaller in size than a Borg Cube, and may be launched from a Cube as a sort of escape pod. The sphere is also considerably weaker than the Cube, and can be destroyed by a Sovereign-class starship with relative ease using quantum torpedoes.
The Borg Queen's vessel was a unique diamond shaped starship that was used by the Borg Queen to travel. Little is known about its capabilities or specific purpose. However, the only times the diamond has been seen have been to transport the queen, and thus it can be inferred that it is 'her' ship. The ship is heavily armed and well protected and like all Borg ships, capable of transwarp speeds. The ship is approximately 800 meters long.
A Borg Diamond was present when Species 10026 was assimilated. It was assumed that Seven of Nine and the Borg Queen were aboard while this assimilation took place. Later, a Diamond pursued the Delta Flyer when it escaped from the Unicomplex after rescuing Seven. The Diamond was destroyed when the USS Voyager collapsed the transwarp conduit it was traveling in.
The Reman warbird Scimitar was a massive warship constructed under the command of Shinzon as part of a secret plot to overthrow the Romulan Senate and liberate the subjugated natives of Remus.
The Scimitar was the keystone of Shinzon's plot to assassinate the Romulan Senate and assume the role of Praetor of the Romulan Star Empire, something he could not achieve without the support of the Romulan military. The Scimitar helped prove Shinzon's ambitions of attacking the Federation and ending the period of peace that had frustrated some Romulan generals.
The Scimitar's cloaking technology was, in the words of Geordi La Forge, "perfect". It emitted no tachyons and left no residual anti-protons, the two ways that a cloaked ship could be tracked and located. Thus, when cloaked, the Scimitar was virtually impossible to find. Only a chance hit by an opposing ship's weapons could reveal its location, temporarily disrupting the cloak. The Scimitar could even deploy its weapons and deflector shields and travel at high warp speeds while cloaked, actions which, with less advanced cloaking technology, necessitated de-cloaking. Its maximum warp factor when cloaked matched that of Starfleet's Sovereign class starship.
The Scimitar was designed for war. With 52 disruptor banks and 27 photon torpedo bays, it was ready for nearly any battle. It was also equipped with a powerful thalaron radiation weapon, capable of stripping the life off a planet in a matter of seconds. This weapon took seven minutes to prepare. The Scimitar also held several Scorpion class attack fighters. One of these were used by Capt. Picard and Data to escape. The Scimitar had primary and secondary shields. This allowed for twice the protection, giving it a backup shield. The Enterprise-E, Starfleet's most powerful ship, could not destroy it with all of the above mentioned technology. Even with the assistance of two Romulan Valdore-class Warbirds, the ship still had the obvious advantage.
The D'deridex-class Warbird (also known as the B-type Warbird or Warbird Class) was the backbone of the Romulan fleet during the mid to late 24th century.
The emergence of the massive D'deridex-class Warbird in 2364, during an encounter with the USS Enterprise-D on the edge of the Neutral Zone, signaled the end of a fifty-three year Romulan isolation.
Over the next ten years, these Warbirds, under the command of both the Romulan military and Tal'Shiar, would participate in numerous encounters with Starfleet and the Dominion. By 2374, they were prominently featured in the Dominion War, where they were instrumental in forcing the Dominion fleets back time and again.
The class saw action during the First and Second Battles of Chin'toka and the final showdown of the conflict, the Battle of Cardassia.
The D'deridex-class Warbird, classified as a cruiser by Starfleet, was one of the most advanced vessels in the Romulan Star Empire. Warbirds were roughly twice as long as a Federation Galaxy-class starship, with impressive fire power, but a lower maximum speed and less combat maneuverability.
Despite their power, many ships of the class were destroyed by the Dominion, including the flagship.
The outboard plan of the Warbird's design incorporated a unique horizontally split-"shell" hull design, with a prominent forward section. The bulk of the ships overall size was incorporated in the open-shell, which resemble two separate "wings" that meet at either side at the warp nacelles, at the "tail" and off the "neck", which was connected to the "head" or primary forward hull section. The "head" featured the bridge, main engineering and a majority of the primary weapon systems of the vessel. Like earlier Romulan ships, D'deridex-class Warbirds were equipped with cloaking devices, which protect them from detection in most evasive situations.
The primary weapons array of a Warbird was located in its "head", and consisted of a disruptor array, which also appears to have been shared with a torpedo launcher. Two additional disruptor arrays were located, one each, along the top of the upper "neck" support and along the bottom of the lower "neck" support.
Valdore-type is a preliminary designation for a Romulan warbird design, of which the Valdore is a member. In service during the late-2370s, the Valdore-type warbird was a staple of the fleet of the Romulan Star Empire.
In the year 2379, two Valdore-type starships assisted the USS Enterprise-E in attacking the rogue Reman warbird Scimitar in the Bassen Rift in 2379.
Among these ships was the Valdore - under the command of Romulan Commander Donatra. Both ships were critically damaged during the battle, one presumably destroyed.
Similar in design to the D'deridex-class warbird, the Valdore type was a large, fixed-wing vessel, ranging in color from dark-green to brown.
With a wingspan roughly 900 meters wide, the vessel featured a large section extending forward to create a down-sloped head shape. Warp nacelles were connected at the end of each wing with impulse engines mounted aft. The hull was marked by distinctive "feather" shaped plating.
Ships of the Valdore type featured several forward-mounted disruptor banks located on each wing and some on the forward section of the ship.
The Valdore appeared to have a sensor array superior to that of the USS Enterprise (or at least, one better suited for detecting cloaked ships).
